The past month brought a wave of developer experience work across Studio, the MCP server, and the React App SDK.

App SDK ships inside Studio by default. Studio v6.10 bundles the App SDK, so custom tools built with @sanity/sdk-react resolve project, dataset, and auth from the active workspace automatically — no SanityApp or ResourceProvider wrapper needed.

Account-free projects let agents and developers start without signing up. sanity new creates a project with temporary credentials valid for 72 hours. The project is claimable before or after that window closes.

MCP agents get file upload and schema inspection. v2.30 added dataset_assets_upload for uploading images and files via the local CLI, plus schema discovery tools that enumerate every deployed schema source and resolve overlapping workspace names. Earlier MCP releases added run_sanity_cli (v2.27) and CORS origin management (v2.29).

Document comment hooks arrive in the React SDK. v2.20 exposed useComments, useCommentThreads, and useCommentActions, with live updates and Portable Text message storage. v2.19 added useReportPresence so App SDK users appear to Studio collaborators in the navbar and field indicators.

The JavaScript client moves to ESM. v8.0 requires Node 22.12+ and ships ESM only. require(esm) support in Node 22.12+ means most existing code continues unchanged; older runtimes stay on v7.

Media Library gained version-specific actions and a faster grid. Each asset version now has its own preview, download, and share actions. The grid was virtualized to render only visible assets, keeping large libraries responsive. A folder picker search input and copyable asset IDs round out the release.
