The following Gemini models will be shut down (retired) in October 2026:

  • gemini-2.5-pro
  • gemini-2.5-flash
  • gemini-2.5-flash-lite
  • gemini-2.5-flash-image (aka "Nano Banana")

For general-use models, the shutdown date depends on your Gemini API provider:

  • Gemini Developer API (Google AI): October 16, 2026
  • Vertex AI Gemini API: October 20, 2026

For the image-generating model (Nano Banana), the shutdown date is October 02, 2026 regardless of provider.

Other "Nano Banana" models and stable Gemini Live API 2.5 models are not impacted.

If you use these models with Firebase AI Logic, update to a newer model (like gemini-3.6-flash or gemini-3.1-flash-image) to avoid service disruption. Shutdown models return a 404 error.
