Agents get more control over how they work

Linear's biggest move this week was a rework of how its coding agent runs a session. The short version: less babysitting, more knobs. Coding sessions now route simpler tasks to a faster model automatically while reserving the default reasoning model for harder work — a direct answer to the token bill that comes with running every issue through the heaviest model available.

The same update widens the agent's reach into your existing setup. Sessions can pull environment secrets during setup, so an agent working in its cloud environment can hit the APIs and services it needs without secrets being pasted into prompts. It also supports open-weight models, starting with GLM-powered sessions, with workspace admins deciding which models their teams can pick. That last piece matters for organizations that want agentic coding but can't send everything through a single vendor.

For the humans organizing the work, Linear also added custom project labels and statuses, project lead teams, loops triggered by team membership changes, and durable IDs for projects and initiatives — the kind of structural plumbing that pays off once projects outlive a quarter. Linear Mobile got its usual round of bug fixes and minor improvements.

Figma fills a years-old auto layout gap

If you've ever wanted a row of cards to wrap onto the next line inside a vertical stack, this one's been a long time coming: vertical wrap is now available when auto layout is set to vertical flow. Horizontal wrap has existed for ages, which made its absence in vertical layouts a persistent workaround generator — nested frames, manual reflow, or just accepting a design that broke at narrow widths. Designers building responsive card grids and tag lists can now let the layout do the wrapping.

Figma otherwise had a quiet internal release with bug fixes and improvements, nothing readers need to act on.

Maintenance weeks for the rest

Notion shipped a handful of updates through the week — one on Tuesday, another on Thursday, and a third over the weekend — all described only as bug fixes and performance improvements, with no specifics from the release notes. Weekly maintenance rather than news; if you've been seeing flakiness, updating is cheap.

Slack's week was even terser: a bug fix release whose notes amount to a promise to keep the app in "tip-top shape," with more to come. Nothing to plan around — just grab it when your client prompts you.

The through-line this week: the collaborative tools people live in are mostly in upkeep mode, while the agentic layer on top of them — Linear's, specifically — is where the real design decisions are being made.
