Neon brings decision models to its AI Gateway as PlanetScale builds out Neki
October 19–25, 2026
Neon added TypeSafe's Jev decision models to its AI Gateway alongside an OAuth 2.1 provider for Managed Better Auth, while PlanetScale spent the week deepening Neki with read-only replicas, live connection controls, and Metal instance sizes.

Decision models and auth on Neon
Neon's week centered on the AI Gateway, which now serves TypeSafe's judgment-oriented models: Jev 1.14 and open-weights OpenJev answer questions about your input with a choice, a score, or a probability rather than generating text, and bill input tokens only. That's a meaningfully different shape of API call from chat completion, and worth knowing about if you've been hand-rolling classification or ranking logic on top of a generative model. The same update gives Managed Better Auth an OAuth 2.1 authorization server mode, adds automatic top-up for AI Gateway credits, and rounds out the CLI with neon functions new and neon docs search. On the storage side, plcoffee and plls are deprecated alongside plv8, and multipart object uploads now go up to 10 GiB.
Neki grows up
PlanetScale's managed offering got most of the product attention this week, and the theme is operational control. Read-only replicas for Neki let you attach up to eight instances per shard that copy from the primary and serve reads without ever taking part in failover — the right home for analytics, reports, and exports that shouldn't touch live-traffic instances. Routing is a matter of setting a query target, which the CLI can now configure. Those replicas are easier to reason about now that live connections are visible in the dashboard and CLI, with the ability to cancel a running query (connection stays open) or terminate a session entirely (connection closes, open transaction rolls back). On AWS, Neki also picked up Metal M-10 through M-160 sizes, matching what Postgres already offered, with storage chosen separately from vCPU and memory and fixed thereafter.
For Vitess users, disk scaling per keyspace is the headline: grow automatically to a limit, stay fixed, or shrink, with billing on actual capacity and shrinks rejected above 80% utilization. Materialize workflows now appear on the Workflows page with stream states, replication lag, and the queries feeding each table, though lifecycle actions stay in the CLI. The Heroku Migrator got faster and broader, deferring secondary index rebuilds until after the copy and migrating every application schema. The CLI itself deprecated pscale branch sidecar and added retry classification for schema refresh errors.
Postgres plumbing and transaction safety
PlanetScale also removed the patroni.slots parameter, detecting logical replication slots automatically — just keep failover support enabled so slots survive switchovers. Elsewhere, Prisma shipped a patch fixing nested $transaction calls that could leak later, unrelated transactions into the wrong context, plus dependency updates for security advisories; its v8 release candidate moves ORM commands onto a new CLI engine and lets Postgres migrations rename, move, and remove namespaces. Supabase's CLI added a lock file for pinning stack service versions and fixed PGSSL* settings being ignored by db push --linked and pg_dump, while its JS client stopped misreporting auth and bucket errors as missing files.
