Devin gained cross-session memory with a nightly review of past work, while Codex retired GPT-5.5 for ChatGPT sign-ins and pushed steering and a searchable /config into its CLI. Claude Code and Cursor also spent the week tightening defaults, permissions, and integrations.

Agents that remember

The biggest shift of the week is that an agent now carries context between sessions. Devin added cross-session memory, personal to each user rather than shared across an org, with the memory files reviewable and toggleable under Settings > Customization > Memory. Each night Devin reviews recent sessions and refines what it keeps, surfaced as recent dreaming sessions — a quiet background process that makes the next session start smarter. The same update trimmed the resume window for sleeping sessions from 30 days to 14 and added font settings, command palette shortcuts, real diff cards for large edits, notifications split by type, and server-synced preferences.

Devin's other two releases were about breadth rather than depth. Side chats multiplied from a single message with a menu listing a message's threads, and /devin review and /devin prompt now work on GitLab merge requests. Admins also got a scoped Review manager role plus SARIF 2.1.0 export for code-scan findings — useful for teams that want review management without handing out org-wide admin.

Codex changes its defaults

OpenAI's retirement of GPT-5.5 for ChatGPT sign-ins is the week's most consequential housekeeping: API-key sessions are unaffected, but anyone with workspace defaults, managed configurations, scheduled tasks, or scripts still pointing at gpt-5.5 needs to move to GPT-6.1 Sol. Separately, Codex CLI made steering immediate — a follow-up sent mid-response now redirects the turn, and interrupting stops active Code Mode cells and their nested tool calls. The same release turned /config into a searchable panel that flags which changes need a restart.

Guardrails and permissions

Claude Code spent the week on defaults and safety. Its permission mode default changed on third-party providers, and fork subagents are now on across the CLI, Agent SDK, desktop app, and VS Code; the Read tool stopped loading oversized images into memory and a /config row can turn idle compaction off. Vim mode gained the % bracket motion and a watchdog now bounds unattended retries at usage limits that reset too far out. Mod authors picked up a much larger API surface — virtualText decorations, agent transcript views, a prompt.change hook, and GenAI span attributes — alongside more than 35 fixes, while idle compaction and a disable-file-mentions switch rounded out the terminal experience.

Wider platforms

Cursor opened its Origin app marketplace with 20+ integrations from partners like Cloudflare, Linear, Sentry, and Socket Security, with public submissions and apps that write back check runs and PR comments. Cloud agents can now build shareable canvases and manage environments through a beta API. Grok Build, meanwhile, shipped a steady polish pass: resume search matching words in any order, newest-first resume listings, hooks that honor continue: false, and CLI commands that survive closed output pipes.
