That single number reframes what the free tier is for: a 1 GB ceiling per project is enough to run several real apps side by side rather than demo one, and the surrounding bundle — 100 CU-hours of compute, autoscaling to 2 CU, 10 branches, a 6-hour instant restore window, Managed Better Auth up to 60,000 MAU, object storage, and Node.js functions — is aimed squarely at people deciding whether to build on Postgres without a credit card. [Lakebase Search reached general availability](/release/rel_4QyJPECyN1JVINgENrelj-neon-s-lakebase-search-reaches-ga-with-vector-and-bm25-retrieval) with a vector extension for semantic search and a BM25 extension for full-text search, both inside Lakebase Postgres — the vector index lives in object storage and scales to zero without a rebuild, and pgvector users can add an ANN index without migrating data or rewriting queries. Then the [AI Gateway started serving embedding models](/release/rel_nS9aDzX3zodxUrmCyfd9T-neon-ai-gateway-now-serves-embedding-models-on-its-openai-compatible-endpoint) on the same OpenAI-compatible endpoint and credential used for chat, accepting batches of up to 150 strings and returning 1024-dimension vectors that can be written straight into Postgres and queried with Lakebase Search. The practical upshot is that the whole retrieval pipeline — embed, store, search — runs on one branch, which is a meaningfully different shape than gluing a separate vector service to your database.\n\nTwo other Neon posts are worth noting but read more as position papers than products: a [write-up on branch-based restores](/release/rel_BURg0HNkMrO0EEozjNzgF-neon-explains-branch-based-restores-in-lakebase-postgres) arguing that decoupled compute and storage turn restores into a metadata operation measured in seconds rather than hours of snapshot hydration and WAL replay, and a [reliability retrospective](/release/rel_zB63KKWzdUjSs_hHH7nCo-neon-details-reliability-overhaul-after-two-control-plane-incidents) covering what changed after two control-plane incidents in one week. TypeScript teams on Effect got [first-party Effect bindings](/release/rel_xZ60UTNGdw_R8k-DgqsIi-neon-launches-neon-effect-bindings-for-effect-4-0-typescript), wrapping the Neon SDK with the same method names but returning Effects and Streams.\n\n### PlanetScale makes MySQL imports a CLI workflow\n\nPlanetScale's headline is that [you can now import an existing MySQL database into Vitess with zero downtime](/release/rel_B4O6RBgXm7bDosH9qYQ_v-planetscale-adds-zero-downtime-mysql-import-to-vitess-via-pscale-cli): connect the source as an external keyspace on a production branch, move its tables with a Vitess MoveTables workflow, and switch reads then writes when you're ready — the source keeps serving traffic the entire time. Vitess has always had this machinery, but operating it used to mean reaching past the comfortable parts of the CLI; the work this week was making it a first-class workflow. That shows up in [new MoveTables subcommands under pscale branch vtctl](/release/rel_RULhzrGnPcgvFwVRzDDwf-planetscale-cli-adds-move-tables-commands-deprecating-pscale-workflow) — list, create, status, start, stop, switch-traffic, reverse-traffic, complete, cancel — plus a diff command to verify data before cutting over. They replace the `pscale workflow` commands and the `/workflows` API endpoints, which are now deprecated. The old `data-imports` command is [gone entirely](/release/rel_kOo4O1mbHxl89VdOPK58F-planetscale-cli-v0-341-0-removes-data-imports-and-adds-move-tables-flag), its replacement complete and cancel actions taking a flag to ignore the source keyspace. Read-only replica commands got [renamed with warnings on the deprecated forms](/release/rel_NC-ZLDPlcffHly643TZq2-planetscale-cli-v0-343-0-renames-read-only-replica-commands), and keyspace settings now [accept storage options validated against your disk scaling strategy](/release/rel_mPzxWh5SdryVYRoNHIRj3-planetscale-cli-v0-340-0-adds-keyspace-storage-settings-and-deprecates-workflow).\n\nThe rest of PlanetScale's week is tuning and visibility. Keyspace parameters can be [viewed and changed with a CLI command](/release/rel_T5soxLbkdfM6Wt7ycrQK5-planetscale-cli-adds-pscale-keyspace-parameters-to-view-and-change-vitess) — including a changes list that tracks each adjustment as it rolls out — alongside [Prometheus metrics for planned and emergency reparents](/release/rel_sCgYbIOvBewRIuq4IGvDw-planetscale-adds-prometheus-reparent-metrics-and-changes-vtorc-recovery-type) whose label values changed, so existing queries filtering on the old recovery types need updating. The notable bits: the client SDK [patched a Next.js RCE in its realtime example and fixed Blob content types on Functions](/release/rel_MTXOaecxNkNPkVn6MqDVE-supabase-client-sdk-v2-117-3-canary-0-patches-next-js-rce-and-fixes-blob-content).
